Gone But Not Forgotten

Mister

I was lucky enough to meet Mister before his eyes where open. Well, he was not the puppy that came home with me out of his litter he was one of the puppies that spoke to me. So, when he needed to find a new home at 5 years old, we were happy to have him join the family. The handsome boy did come with a lot of baggage. He was very cat aggressive and super noise sensitive and just never happy in the house. We worked thought many things to get him easer to live with. Well, the only thing that helped with the noise sensitivity was that he went deaf. He did learn to leave the cats alone in the house, outside was a different matter.
Mister was always a perfect gentleman when out in public. He made the most perfect 4-H loaner dog for member’s that would not have a dog of their own or that their dog was just not right to do 4-H with. As he got older, he did get ring wise and knew that if he was in the ring the member was not going to be giving him food. (No Food… No Listen)
Well, we did not show him in AKC or ASCA he taught lots of youth the joys of training and working with dogs. He did a great job touching lots of lives and giving love and joy.

Checkers

What Can I say about miss Checkers. This little girl was full of fire and spunk. Although we did not show very much, she put her all into it. Checker was Mister litter mate and the one we chose to bring home to make part of our family. She was going to be my next partner in all that I do. Well, she had other plans. She took one look at my husband and her heart was his. The beautiful thing was she loved me too and was happy to play all the games mom wanted too also.

Checkers was always and high scoring dog every time we got to step in to the ring. She was poetry in motion and was one of my best heeling dogs I ever had the joy to train. She was not a great fan of pushy adolescent dogs so she was not the best demo dog for group classes.

We did Agility, Rally, Obedience. I wish we would have had more ring time but my human kids where younger when Checkers was my partner. She did demo in my 4-H club to show them what hard work and perseverance could do. Miss Checker was one in a million who shined brightly.

Uno

When a friend of mine told me that she had a singleton puppy (that’s when only one puppy is born or left alive out of a litter of puppies) I just had to meet him. So, I took my boys and my mom to go meet this little guy. My oldest son is special needs and can get loud when he was upset. When he was younger my Aussies wanted nothing to do with him at those times of frustration. So, I thought a little dog that could be his and would not care if he yelled was in order. We went off to meet Uno. Well Uno enjoyed getting love from all of us he kept going back to my son and fell asleep in his lap.
It had been a long time since we had a Terrier in the house and boy did, he bring challenges. At about nine months he took a dislike to all other dogs. With lots of hard work and lots of patience we were able to bring the boy around to the fact that other dogs were allowed to be in the world too and he did not need to yell at them all. By the time he was three the dog that I love also became a dog I liked and enjoy being around.

Although I never got around to showing Uno he did get to show in 4-H. Well, my son never did 4-H with him. Two very lovely young ladies did show him. He even made it to State Fair with one of them. Uno also helped in my classes as a demo dog. I remember hearing one time that one of my students could not believe that I had a Cairn Terrier and that he could do so many cool things.

For now, Uno is living his best life yelling at all the younger dogs to stay off all his dog beds and we better not forget his cookie time. We said good bye to Uno in August of 2025 after his 17 birthday the house is a lot quitter and we miss his happy little cookie dance.

Savvy came to live with us when she was 14-months-old from our wonderful breeder that was so kind to share her with us. She was wonderful from the moment that she joined our house. Kind, Sweet and beautiful beyond words. She was a joy to be with. She picked up skills very well if they were not to detailed. When it came to some of the skills, she would need to be competitive in obedience for an adult she struggled.

As I watched the bond that she was having with my youngest son Ty, building. I knew I would not ask for a better partner for him than Savvy. Ty was only 5 years old when Savvy joined our house hold. Boy was I right. Every time I went out to work with my other dogs Ty would take Savvy out and work with her right alongside with me. When Ty was 10, he started 4-H with Savvy. As a team the two of them were unstoppable. Ty showed Savvy at our county fair up till the time she was 12 years old and happy to stay home. Every year the two of them made it to State fair. Showing over and over what hard work and team work could do. They were a joy to watch.

Outside of 4-H I encouraged Ty to try some sports in AKC and ASCA. Ty earned all of Savvy’s titles in both Organizations. They got Special recognition is ASCA for their high scores in Rally Obedience and received high in trial Junior at the shows they competed at. With lots of convincing, I got Ty to try junior showmanship and confirmation with Savvy. Though Juniors was not for them they shined in confirmation even getting an invitation to ASCA National.
When I talked to people that have gotten to know my dogs over the years, I would say every one of them would say Savvy was there favorite. I know she stole Ty’s heart.
